Youth Programs
The Cypress Pops is dedicated to serving the young
people of the community by sponsoring programs promoting music education.
Our youth programs are geared to teach values necessary to practice,
rehearse, and collaborate in music to achieve their goals through
performance. We have three new programs:
The Junior Pops:
This program is designed to integrate local high school and college
students into the Pops rehearsals and, in some cases, actual performances.
Young students will join the Pops in rehearsals and possible performances
during our season. Students will be able to sit side-by-side with
professional musicians and experience what it's like to perform with some of
the finest musicians in the world. In addition, if these selected
students chose other professions, they'll be able to learn from other
musicians who are doctors, lawyers, engineers, as well as other
professionals who continue to perform music with the Pops.
Free for Youths in Need:
We are looking for sponsors to provide free instruments and lessons
to less fortunate children of the community. Young people wishing to
play band and orchestra instruments in the inner city will have an
opportunity to express themselves through music when this program is up and
running. Using music lessons children will be exposed to different
channels to build successful lives out of desperate situations.
Pops Rock:
This our own school of rock that brings contemporary
music together with orchestral instrumentation and arrangements.
Contemporary music and classical music come together in the Pops form with
some of the original members of bands we love and cherish. The
Beatles, Beach Boys, Mama's and the Papa's, and other have accomplished Pops
arrangements and our goal is to bring together the old and new forms of
music to the next generation. Joey Covington, drummer for the
Jefferson Airplane/Starship, is already on board with more artist to come.
